Biography
Taihi Chin is a Japanese violinist, soloist, and orchestral leader whose career has developed across Japan, the United States, China, Europe, and Southeast Asia. Born in Kobe, Japan, she began studying the violin at the age of six and received early training from Yoko Kitaura and Prof. Tomotada Soh of the Royal Academy of Music in London. Her early promise led to success at the All-Japan Competition, after which she was invited to perform with orchestras in Japan, Germany, and Austria.
Taihi continued her studies with Sayaka Mabuchi and Machie Oguri of Tokyo College of Music. In 2012, she was invited to perform Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with the Telemann Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Takeharu Nobuhara. Her reputation as one of Japan’s outstanding young violin talents was further strengthened in 2016 when she received a top prize at the Japan Classic Competition. Further engagements followed, including a performance of Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 1 at Osaka’s Izumi Symphony Hall.
Following her national achievements, Taihi received a scholarship in Violin Performance from Soai High School, one of Japan’s leading arts schools, and later a full scholarship to Manhattan School of Music in New York. She graduated in 2023 with both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Violin Performance under the tutelage of Lucie Robert, an apprentice of legendary violinist Josef Gingold. During her time in New York, she received the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition Prize in 2022. She has also studied with renowned violinists including Victor Danchenko, Oleh Krysa, Gerard Poulet, Dmitri Berlinsky, and Tedi Papavrami.
From 2023 to 2025, Taihi served as Concertmaster of Sichuan Symphony Orchestra in China, one of the country’s leading ensembles. She is also regularly invited as concertmaster with orchestras in the United States, Canada, China, and Spain. Alongside her orchestral leadership, she maintains an active career as a concerto soloist, with recent performances alongside Sichuan Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga, and Manila Symphony Orchestra.
