Master Sarun Ungpanya is a Thai jazz guitarist and music educator with more than twenty years of experience in performance and teaching. A graduate of the Department of Music at Kasetsart University, he specializes in jazz, fusion, and contemporary music, and remains active as both an educator and professional performer in Thailand’s jazz scene.

Biography

Master Sarun Ungpanya is a Thai jazz guitarist and music educator with more than twenty years of experience in performance, teaching, and ensemble work. A graduate of the Department of Music at Kasetsart University, he has developed a strong musical foundation in jazz, fusion, and contemporary music. Throughout his career, Master Sarun has built his musicianship through extensive live performance experience, working across jazz clubs, festivals, ensemble settings, and international cultural events. His playing reflects a deep understanding of harmony, groove, improvisation, tone, and the interactive role of the guitar within a jazz ensemble. He currently serves as a guitar instructor at Rajamangala University of Technology, where he supports students in developing technical fluency, musical understanding, and practical performance skills. His teaching combines structured guitar training with real-world musicianship, helping students understand not only how to play, but how to listen, respond, and communicate through music. As an active performer, Master Sarun has collaborated with leading groups and musicians, including Dr. Pathorn, Kitssewi Jazz Collective, Bangkok Big Band, and Bangkok Jazz Group. His performance career includes appearances at jazz festivals and international music events in Thailand, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Mozambique. At MUSE [X], Master Sarun brings a practical and performance-based approach to jazz guitar education. His work supports students in building strong foundations in harmony, improvisation, rhythm, ensemble interaction, and artistic expression, while encouraging them to develop their own sound and musical identity.
