Pattara Choomthong, also known as Ton of Dezember, is a pioneering Thai heavy metal guitarist, bandleader, and one of the key figures behind the development of Thailand’s metal scene. As the founder, guitarist, and core creative force of Dezember, he has helped shape the sound, identity, and stage culture of Thai heavy metal for more than three decades. Dezember was founded in December 1993 by Siam Chumthong and former bassist Worapot Singnoi. The band made its first major appearance in 1994 after being invited by Prapas Lakham to perform at Pain of Death, a landmark concert held at Srinakharinwirot University Prasarnmit. The event is widely remembered as one of Thailand’s earliest large-scale metal concerts and an important moment in the birth of the country’s live metal culture. Following the concert, Dezember attracted strong attention for its raw musicianship, intensity, and distinctive heavy sound. The band became the first act released under Jutiphut Records, a label created to support metal music in Thailand. Their debut release, ลัทธิซาตาน, was recorded with only two core members, with Siam taking on multiple creative responsibilities including guitar, programmed drums, and vocals. At a time when Thailand’s metal scene was still young and specialized musicians were difficult to find, this release became an important underground statement and helped establish Dezember’s identity. The band continued to grow through the support of the Thai rock and metal community, including influential music media and specialist record shops that helped spread Dezember’s name among dedicated listeners. Over the years, Dezember built a powerful discography that included วินาศกรรม, บาป, คลั่ง, Naturalism, Spiritual Leader, Crisis, and later singles including เxี้ยไป…ไรมา, Long Live The People, and FUCKAGANDA. Beyond recording, Siam’s work with Dezember has placed him on major stages alongside many of the most recognized names in international rock and metal. Dezember has performed as an opening act for artists such as Dog Eat Dog, Slipknot, Exodus, Lamb of God, Avenged Sevenfold, Megadeth, Children of Bodom, Korn, Sepultura, Arch Enemy, As I Lay Dying, Trivium, and Jinjer.
